Polaris Lighting designed and supplied the lighting for Campus 90, one of the most recognisable new buildings in Varna. Completed in 2022, the complex combines student accommodation, a hotel and a conference centre. Its architectural concept was developed by E-Arch Studio and architects Galina Baleva, Ina Dineva and Martin Hristov.
Campus 90 received Bulgaria’s Building of the Year 2022 award in the Social Infrastructure – Culture, Science and Education category and a BIG SEE distinction in 2023. The building is located at 90 Tsar Osvoboditel Boulevard, near its intersection with Vasil Levski Boulevard and within walking distance of two universities.
With a total floor area exceeding 16,500 sq.m, Campus 90 contains 120 student rooms, 70 hotel rooms, six halls of different sizes, a restaurant, gym, spacious common areas and a roof terrace. This variety requires an individual lighting approach for each area while maintaining a consistent identity throughout the building.
Polaris Lighting combined pendant and decorative luminaires, linear systems, LED downlights, track lighting and magnetic lighting. Within the common spaces, light performs more than a practical function: it actively contributes to the youthful and informal atmosphere of the complex.
Recessed SKY LED downlights provide discreet and evenly distributed illumination without visually overwhelming the ceilings. White surface-mounted OSMO LED downlights are installed in other parts of the complex, where they stand out as individual architectural elements.
Black and white S-LINE 48 OM systems complement the different geometric compositions. They are particularly effective within areas featuring exposed ceilings, decorative timber structures and clearly defined circulation routes. The illuminated lines follow the architecture and help organise the large common spaces into separate functional zones.
BAND MAGNET 23 magnetic LED modules can be positioned and moved easily along the powered profile. This allows lighting accents to be adapted when the furniture layout, displays or use of the particular space changes.
Black TUBE spotlights mounted on three-phase tracks are used inside the foyer. The adjustable luminaires supplement the general lighting and can highlight the reception, wall graphics, decorative surfaces and individual areas for social interaction.
The central idea behind Campus 90 is to create opportunities for communication between students, hotel guests, entrepreneurs and visitors. Its common spaces are therefore designed as active social areas, with lighting giving each of them an individual character.
ANNA LED panels complement the functional rooms, while decorative pendants and bespoke lighting compositions create a warmer atmosphere in spaces for relaxation and meetings. The different solutions are united through a consistent use of light, colour and geometry.
Campus 90 demonstrates Polaris Lighting’s ability to develop comprehensive solutions for large multifunctional buildings. The combination of SKY, OSMO, S-LINE 48 OM, BAND MAGNET 23, ANNA, TUBE and decorative luminaires creates a functional, energy-efficient and visually memorable environment.
