In 2021, Polaris Lighting implemented lighting solutions for Park Lane Office Center, a modern Class A office building located at 16 Srebarna Street in Sofia. Completed in June of the same year, the development comprises 34,800 square metres of gross built-up area, 11 floors above ground and two underground levels. Its architectural concept was developed by the international practice Chapman Taylor in collaboration with the Bulgarian architectural studio Planning. Our task was to deliver functional, representative and dependable lighting corresponding to the scale and high standard of the building.
Park Lane Office Center was designed with spacious floor plates, high ceilings and a fully glazed façade that introduces abundant natural light into the building. The artificial lighting therefore needed to complement the architecture and provide a comfortable transition between daytime and evening conditions. We supplied discreet LED downlights with uniform light distribution for the shared areas. The luminaires are integrated into the ceilings of entrance zones, corridors and lift lobbies without interrupting the building’s clean architectural lines.
The main lobby is the visual heart of the building and one of its most recognisable interior spaces. Elegant pendant luminaires were arranged in a dynamic composition above the reception desk and waiting areas. The numerous small points of light create a sense of movement and lightness while emphasising the height of the space. Their warm decorative glow contrasts with the stone surfaces, dark architectural elements and extensive glazing, giving the lobby a sophisticated yet welcoming appearance.
Some of the luminaires were designed and manufactured specifically for Park Lane Office Center. Their dimensions, mounting methods and lighting effects were adapted to the individual architectural spaces. This approach allows the lighting to be perceived as a natural element of the building rather than an addition selected after the interior had been completed. The combination of decorative fixtures, LED downlights and focused illumination establishes a clear hierarchy between the entrance, reception, lift areas and circulation corridors.
Alongside the representative lighting, Polaris Lighting implemented emergency and evacuation lighting systems. Their purpose is to provide visibility, orientation and clear identification of escape routes if the principal power supply is interrupted. Emergency luminaires and directional signs are positioned throughout the corridors, shared spaces and areas surrounding the exits. The solution is discreetly integrated into the interior while remaining clearly recognisable whenever it is required to protect employees and visitors.
Park Lane Office Center received two distinctions in Bulgaria’s 2021 Building of the Year competition: an award in the Buildings with Elements of Green Architecture and Innovation category and a special award for Office and Corporate Buildings. For Polaris Lighting, this project demonstrates how technical illumination, architectural accents and safety systems can be combined within one coherent solution. The result is a consistent lighting environment that complements the contemporary architecture and premium standard of one of Sofia’s recognisable office buildings.
